Spurs hope of a Championship League spot is in tatters after a home loss to Wolves.

With a home fixture, and Wolves having recently come  off a loss to Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur should have come away with 3 vital points, but instead showed little ability to overcome a determined Wolves side.

Let’s hope that Conte doesn’t fall foul of the Tottenham hierarchy as others have before him, because the problems are bigger than his current tenure. Tottenham have been declining, albeit slowly even before their crushing Champions League loss, and every manager since has paid the price.

Whilst Kulusevski and Bentancur have clearly offered Tottenham some added quality, the addition of two players will not transform a whole squad..and Tottenham have a squad that is either ‘good’ but not spectacular, or have suffered loss of form…as in the case of Harry Kane.

A Fast Start To Wolves

It is interesting that Wolves have floundered under Nuno Espírito Santo who later saw his Spurs team suffer similarly. However, Lage has demotivated a dangerous Wolves squad, whereas Conte, a seasoned winner, has been unable to do the same as yet.

Wolves were able to start on the front foot against Spurs, and reap two hard fought goals as a result, whereas Spurs looked out of ideas…none more so that when Son was brilliantly put through on the Wolves goal, only to offer the tamest of shots to Malheiro de Sá.

The Spurs board must be patient with Conte, plus back him further in the transfer market. Arsenal were in a similar position until they completely remodelled their squad, and Spurs need to do the same.

It must be tempting for Spurs to blame the manager again, but simply put, if Mourinho, Santo, Pochettino, and Conte can’t transform the North London outfit…absolutely nobody can…..

Impossible….

Conte has a monumental task ahead of him, not least testing the patience of Daniel Levy. However, it is refreshing to see the honesty and modesty that Conte brings to his appraisals of his team.

One such moment was when asked about how Tottenham’s loss affects their Champions League pursuit. This is what he had to say via Sky Sports:

“When you lose two games in a row at home and a previous game against Chelsea, a team that wants to fight for the Champions League is impossible.”

Conte is unfortunately correct. With the exception of major slip ups from their competitors, Tottenham are almost going to find it impossible to make the Champions League places.
